Abortion: What do you think? I chose abortion as the topic of my research paper because it is a very important and controversial subject, and although I have always leaned heavily toward pro-choice, I really hadnt done much reading about it and wanted to support my position. The definition of abortion is expulsion of the fetus from the uterus, due to any cause, before the twenty-eighth week of pregnancy. Abortions are broken down into the following six categories: (1) Habitual abortion, the tendency in some women for pregnancies to end in spontaneous abortions. (2) Incomplete abortion, one in which the fetus is expelled[Â…]dilation may be required to empty the uterus. (3) Induced abortion, intentional termination of pregnancy†¦show more content†¦The placenta is cut from the uterine wall and everything is sucked into a bottle. (3) Dilation and Curettage (D and C). This is similar to a suction procedure except a curette, a loop-shaped steel knife is inserted into the uterus. The baby and placenta are cut into pieces and scraped out into a basin. Bleeding is usually very heavy with this method. (4) Dilation and Evacuation (D and E). This type of abortion is done after the third month of pregnancy. The cervix must be dilated before the abortion. Usually Laminaria sticks are inserted into the cervix. These are made of sterilized seaweed that is compressed into thin sticks. When inserted, they absorb moisture and expand, thus enlarging the cervix. A pliers-like instrument is inserted through the cervix into the uterus. The abortionist then seizes a leg, arm or other part of the baby and, with a twisting motion, tears it from the bod y. This continues until only the head remains. Finally the skull is crushed and pulled out. The nurse must then reassemble the body parts to be sure that all of them were removed. (5) Prostaglandin Abortion. Prostaglandin is a hormone that induces labor. The baby usually dies from the trauma of the delivery. However, if the baby is old enough, it will be born alive. This is called a complication. Stem Cell Research and Cloning Stem cell research and cloning offer promising breakthroughs in the treatment of several conditions such as diabetes, myocardial infarction, and spinal cord injury. The research is based on the fact that young cells can renew themselves and form tissues. Scientists must, therefore, reprogram somatic cells to produce the desired organ before the cells cross the specialization and differentiation stages. To this end, this paper examines ethical issues associated with stem cell research and cloning. Stem cell researchers might not accurately determine the right stage at which cells begin to differentiate and specialize to form organs for the purpose of introducing the anticipated DNA. For this reason, scientists can end up creating a chimera that is part human and pig. Still, researchers can create a chimera that is part sheep and goat due to experimental failures (Karpowicz, Cohen, Van der Kooy, 2005). Experiments involving human subjects can, therefore, be catastrophic and evil if human characteristics are transferred to animals. Stem cell research and human cloning face ethical condemnation because scientists destroy cells embryos as they perform experiments. Still, in experiments involving oocyte retrieval, women must undergo invasive procedures and risk infection, bleeding, and complications of anesthesia. The women also fail to receive a payment that can compensate the time lost in the experiment, as well as, the cost of undergoing induced complications (Lo Parham, 2009). Research involving human subjects should be regulated by institutions such as The National Institutes of Health because the studies have several ethical implications. Specifically, researchers must adhere to set standards because of the need to uphold human dignity when undertaking sensitive experiments. Further, researchers should uphold bodily integrity, protect the privacy of the participant, and autonomy (Kapp, 2006). As a result, studies involving human subject should present sound scientific justification why they must use human oocytes, embryos or human subjects. Still, institutional review boards should provide additional supervision on sensitive studies.

Yes, for the most part he was a bad influence on people, mostly children, but in some ways he was a leader both for the good and bad. In the ways of organized crime Al Capone was at the top of his game throughout his life he influenced many and has left a tremendous legacy behind him. The life of Capone could not have been lead by a cowardly man. He was a mean heavy set man. (Hornung, Rick) Being involved in gangs all his life, by age eleven he was a member of a gang, committing vandalism and getting into fights. (Stockdale, Tom) The life of a gang member or mob man, made life always on the run, and made things extremely risky most of the time. Capone had to make a lot of decisions, and use his bravery to his advantage. The man was not afraid to confront other men even if the enemies held some type of gun or weapon. He was never intimidated, and often left the confronted people dead or forced to run away. One incident resulted in him earning the nickname Scarface. He was sliced 3 times with a knife, one cut from his ear to his mouth, one on his jaw, and the other on his neck. The cuts resulted in 30 stitches. Al Capone was a very convincing leader, and gained much respect from many people, and led many followers. He became a very effective mob leader.
